Georgetown vs. Fairfield: 12/01/2007
Team | 1 | 2 | T |
Fairfield | 33 | 16 | 49 |
Georgetown (#5) | 33 | 28 | 61 |
Johnny here at the Verizon Center, where the Georgetown Hoyas are looking to get their 5th win in as many games to start off the 2007-08 season. Their opponent tonight is the Fairfield Stags, who are 2-4 this season.
We’re just about 45 minutes fro tip-off and the stands here are mostly empty, save for the two student sections where the Hoya faithful keep piling in.
And here are your starting lineups:
For the Hoyas, it’s the usual 5 - Wallace, Summers, Sapp, Ewing, and Hibbert.
For the Stags, they’ll be going with Han, Hawkins, Edney, Anthony Johnson, and Nero.
Keep your in-game thoughts coming in the comments.

Let’s go Hoyas - let’s win another one for the home crowd
December 1st, 2007 at 1:02 pm
After the National Anthem, thanks to Dr. Vincent Kelley, there was a moment of silence for the passings of Henry Hyde, Robert McDonough, and Sean Taylor
December 1st, 2007 at 1:05 pm
Hoyas coming out with all white kits for some reason today - look sharp, but pretty unexpected.
December 1st, 2007 at 1:05 pm
White or Gray, it doesn’t matter - let’s get a W!
December 1st, 2007 at 1:06 pm
Stags win opening tip, but the Hoyas get a stop - now there’s a break in the game, as Sapp is down on the ground under the Fairfield basket.
December 1st, 2007 at 1:07 pm
After a while with the trainer and the coach, Hibbert and Summers help Jessie up, who looks like he still needs to shake some cobwebs out - Rivers comes in as first sub again.
December 1st, 2007 at 1:08 pm
Jessie’s heading to the locker room, and now Roy’s picked up an offensive foul.
December 1st, 2007 at 1:09 pm

December 1st, 2007 at 1:10 pm
Basket by Hawkins for Fairfield — 3-2 Hoyas

December 1st, 2007 at 1:11 pm
Hey 2-2 from the line!
December 1st, 2007 at 1:12 pm
Hoyas looking real good on the boards today, already picking up 5 rebounds only three and a half minutes in.

December 1st, 2007 at 1:15 pm
Hoyas up 11-8 at the first official timeout, and freshmen Freeman and Wright are checking in.
December 1st, 2007 at 1:17 pm
Sapp’s come back to the bench, so looks like trainer Lorry Michel made sure Jessie made a quick recovery.
Let’s see if he can get back in the game soon.
December 1st, 2007 at 1:17 pm
Let’s go Hoyas, we need tighter D.
December 1st, 2007 at 1:17 pm
Jessie’s a fighter, hell be good
December 1st, 2007 at 1:18 pm
Freeman hits his first shot of the night, a three pointer to put the Hoyas up 14-11
December 1st, 2007 at 1:19 pm
Now Wright is coming out with a lost contact lens, and Wallace is checking back in.
The 5 on the floor are Wallace, Rivers, Freeman, Summer, and Hibbert
December 1st, 2007 at 1:20 pm
Come on Hoyas, I don’t like all these health scares. A guy down for 5 minutes and another checking out holding his eye- too tense for me
December 1st, 2007 at 1:21 pm
Another 3 for Fairfield, and the Stags now lead 17-14
December 1st, 2007 at 1:21 pm
Way to go DaJuan
December 1st, 2007 at 1:22 pm
Hoyas down 17-16 at the 12 minute timeout, and Wright and Ewing are checking back in.
Fairfield’s shooting 64% from the field, including 3-3 from 3 point range.
December 1st, 2007 at 1:23 pm
Come on Hoyas…defense!!
December 1st, 2007 at 1:23 pm
Glad to see Wright back in action - and Sapp??
December 1st, 2007 at 1:24 pm
Jessie’s still on the bench, but he’s got his warmups on again. So we’ll have to wait and see
December 1st, 2007 at 1:24 pm
Nice work AUSTIN
December 1st, 2007 at 1:24 pm
Nice pass to Freeman who sends it in from the baseline.
December 1st, 2007 at 1:26 pm
Come on Wallace, keep shooting.
December 1st, 2007 at 1:28 pm
Macklin misses both free throws, but a botched rebound gives Hoyas the ball
December 1st, 2007 at 1:29 pm
Looking sloppy again Hoyas, step it up
December 1st, 2007 at 1:29 pm
Big jam from Ewing really gets the crowd excited, and the Hoyas are now up 20-19
December 1st, 2007 at 1:30 pm
Come on Hoyas, defense!

Foul on Patrick sends us to the 8 minute timeout with the game tied at 22
December 1st, 2007 at 1:33 pm
Nice pass by Rivers, and nice take by Roy - makes the bucket and gets fouled.
December 1st, 2007 at 1:34 pm
There you go!
December 1st, 2007 at 1:36 pm
Summers gets the rebound and knocked out of bounds, but they call him out instead of the push. What happens? Summers just walks back on defense and gets a high five from Hibbert. You like to see that from this team. Great attitudes and composure.
December 1st, 2007 at 1:36 pm
3 for Rivers!!
December 1st, 2007 at 1:36 pm
Hoyas lead 27-22 with 4:31 to go as Fairfield calls timeout
December 1st, 2007 at 1:38 pm
Nice D from Hoyas on one end, and then Roy’s basic spin draws a flop and an offensive foul — and the crowd does not like it. Neither does Coach.
December 1st, 2007 at 1:38 pm
Not again!
December 1st, 2007 at 1:38 pm
Can we stop their 3 point shooters please?
December 1st, 2007 at 1:39 pm
Looong 2 for Summers goes down. I think Pitino would have subbed him out for that.
December 1st, 2007 at 1:40 pm
Another basket by DaJuan, and he has 9 points.
December 1st, 2007 at 1:43 pm
Another 3 for Han he’s got 11. 3-4 from downtown.
December 1st, 2007 at 1:43 pm

Not too good Hoyas - step it up in the 2nd.
December 1st, 2007 at 1:46 pm
Let’s see us start the 2nd Half like we did against ODU. Kill ‘em.
December 1st, 2007 at 1:56 pm
Interesting stats at the half:
Fairfield is shooting 64% from 3 point range, going 7-11. If they keep shooting like that, the Hoyas will have a tough second half.
The Hoyas are shooting 40% from the sin stripe. Looks like they still need to work on hitting their free throws.
December 1st, 2007 at 1:58 pm
So all we have to is stop their shooters and hit our free throws - let’s do it Hoyas, concentrate on the easy stuff.
December 1st, 2007 at 1:59 pm
Jessie’s out there with the team doing their layup lines. Let’s see if he can come out to start the 2nd half like usual.
December 1st, 2007 at 2:01 pm
Sapp is out there, so it’s the same 5 it’s been all season.
December 1st, 2007 at 2:02 pm
Good to see him in, now make the next one.
December 1st, 2007 at 2:03 pm
Hoyas try an alley-oop, Ewing can’t convert with the lay-in
December 1st, 2007 at 2:03 pm
Catch it and come down. Simple plays.
December 1st, 2007 at 2:04 pm
Still no second half points, but Ewing’s at the line to change that.
December 1st, 2007 at 2:05 pm
1-2’s better than 40%
December 1st, 2007 at 2:07 pm
no more empty possessions on offense hoyas!
December 1st, 2007 at 2:08 pm
Way to go Roy!
December 1st, 2007 at 2:08 pm
Nice block on one end, and then an easy 2 for Roy on the other.
December 1st, 2007 at 2:09 pm
Nice take by Rivers, but he can’t hit the finger roll.
December 1st, 2007 at 2:13 pm
Rivers has been putting some man to man full court pressure the past couple trips, and now they call him for a handcheck.
Wallace comes back in for Sapp
December 1st, 2007 at 2:13 pm
Where’s the foul there?
December 1st, 2007 at 2:14 pm
Hibbert just picked up his 3rd foul.
December 1st, 2007 at 2:14 pm
There you go Wallace!
December 1st, 2007 at 2:15 pm
Wallace hits his first 3 of the half and now he’s shooting 2-6 from downtown.
December 1st, 2007 at 2:18 pm
Looks like Cahill is trying to take over this game. After a few questionable calls, he caps this one off with a foul on Summer’s clean block giving Nero 3 shots.
December 1st, 2007 at 2:18 pm
I can’t believe this guy.
December 1st, 2007 at 2:19 pm
Nero can’t cover Roy. At all.
December 1st, 2007 at 2:21 pm
Rivers misses the front end of a 1-1. Hoyas still up 39-37
December 1st, 2007 at 2:21 pm
Come on Hoyas, hit your free throws.
December 1st, 2007 at 2:21 pm
Yes Jon! Yes!
December 1st, 2007 at 2:22 pm
Wallace hits another 3, maybe he’s finally getting into a rhythm today.
December 1st, 2007 at 2:26 pm
Come on Vern! Work on those free throws.
December 1st, 2007 at 2:27 pm
Vernon goes up strong and gets fouled, but I don’t know how well he’ll do with these free throws. That was the Stags’ 9th team foul, so the Hoyas will be shooting two throughout
December 1st, 2007 at 2:28 pm
Crazy bounce on his first free throw goes down, and the crowd loves that. They’re not so happy about the handcheck on Chris Wright.
December 1st, 2007 at 2:28 pm
Looks like we’re all going over for this week’s game time.
December 1st, 2007 at 2:29 pm
Nice defense leads to 35 second violation. Hoyas with the ball up 4 with 8 minutes to go, and the crowd is trying to energize the Hoyas.
December 1st, 2007 at 2:29 pm
How did that not go down?
December 1st, 2007 at 2:30 pm
Freeman’s 3 rattles out, but the fans are still energetic on defense. And they’re pretty upset over that call on Wright.
December 1st, 2007 at 2:33 pm
Fairfield’s Han hits both of the 1-1 to lead all scorers with 13
December 1st, 2007 at 2:33 pm
Way to go Pat!
December 1st, 2007 at 2:35 pm
Looks like Sapp’s not gonna get any more action today, but Summers checks in and hits down a 3 to put the Hoyas up 48-44
December 1st, 2007 at 2:38 pm
A couple of missed 3’s and a couple of offensive rebounds, and now DaJuan’s back at the line.
December 1st, 2007 at 2:39 pm
Great block DaJuan!!
December 1st, 2007 at 2:40 pm
DaJuan Summers comes out of nowhere to block a Fairfield easy bucket, and on the other end, Rivers scores a layup and gets fouled, sending the crowd into hysterics.
December 1st, 2007 at 2:40 pm
That’s the way Hoyas!!11!
December 1st, 2007 at 2:43 pm
The official timeout iced him.

Wallace knocks down a midrange jumper to put the Hoyas back up by 6
December 1st, 2007 at 2:45 pm
What ablock!!
December 1st, 2007 at 2:47 pm
WHAT!??
December 1st, 2007 at 2:48 pm
Rivers has a perfect strip which would have been a breakaway layup, but Cahill calls a mysterious foul, and sends Han to the stripe shooting 1-1
December 1st, 2007 at 2:49 pm
Roy goes 1-2 from the line where the Hoyas are shooting … 36%!
December 1st, 2007 at 2:49 pm
36%? Yuck.
December 1st, 2007 at 2:50 pm
Timeout Fairfield, with the Hoyas winning 55-49
December 1st, 2007 at 2:52 pm
With Hawkins’ missed 3, the Hoyas have the ball up 6 with under a minute to go. They foul Rivers.
December 1st, 2007 at 2:53 pm
That oughta do it. Let’s hit our last free throws and end the game.
December 1st, 2007 at 2:54 pm
Steal by Wright - monsterous slam by Ewing to seal the deal.
December 1st, 2007 at 2:54 pm
WOW!
December 1st, 2007 at 2:54 pm
Another big slam - this one by DaJuan, and the game ends 61-49. A little close, but again, a win is a win.
