USF Recap

In a rare 11:00 am tip-off, the Georgetown Hoyas defeated the USF Bulls 75-45. The early start time may have affected the players’ sharpness, as both teams shot poorly to start the game. Georgetown was only 8-23 from the field (34.8%) in the first half. However, the Hoyas looked hot compared to the awful start from the Bulls. They went through a stretch of nearly 11 minutes in the first half without a point and shot only 6-23 in the opening twenty minutes (26.1%). USF also committed 11 turnovers in the first half. Georgetown led 23-15 at halftime.

Connecticut Recap

After a pair of poor shooting performances, the Hoyas decided to turn the tables, as they held Connecticut to its lowest scoring output of the season, as Georgetown triumphed over the Huskies 58-44. The Hoyas’ Big Three of Jason Clark, Henry Sims, and Hollis Thompson combined for 42 points, almost outscoring UCONN between the three of them. Andre Drummond had 18 points and seven rebounds for the Huskies, who have now lost four straight conference games and drop to under .500 in conference play.

Pittsburgh Recap

The Georgetown Hoyas lost in disappointing fashion to Pittsburgh 72-60 at the Petersen Events Center. Georgetown never led in the contest and allowed their opponents to shoot over 50% from the field on the day. Nasir Robinson and Lamar Patterson combined to score 41 points on 15-17 shooting for the Panthers. Freshman reserve Otto Porter led the Hoyas with 14 points and six rebounds in the losing effort.

Rutgers Recap

The Hoyas survived one of their worst offensive performances of the season in an ugly 52-50 win over Rutgers. Georgetown shot 29.3% from the field, but was 25-36 from the free through stripe, including the two free throws from Otto Porter to give the Hoyas the lead with eight seconds to play. Eli Carter for Rutgers had 14 points to lead all scorers while Henry Sims led the Hoyas with 12 points and 10 rebounds, his first career double-double.

DePaul Recap

Georgetown endured a tough battle against DePaul, beating the Blue Demons 83-75. It was a game of runs, as Georgetown led for most of the contest, but despite several attempts to put the game out of reach, was unable to sustain a double-figure lead. DePaul used a high-intensity press and its three-point shooting to keep the Blue Demons in the game. In the end, though, Georgetown won its second road game in three days to improve to 5-2 in conference play. Jason Clark, who celebrated his birthday the night before, had a career-high 31 points in the win, going an incredible 11-14 from the floor.

St. John’s Recap

The Georgetown Hoyas ended their two-game losing skid in impressive fashion, beating St. John’s 69-49. The Hoyas were led by Hollis Thompson who had 20 points including five three pointers, and Otto Porter added 13 points and 10 rebounds. Moe Harkless had 21 points and 11 rebounds, both game-highs, for the Red Storm before fouling out with five minutes to play.

Cincinnati Recap

The Hoyas dropped their second game in three days, falling to the Cincinnati Bearcats 64-68 at Verizon Center. Georgetown started the game off strong, shooting off to a seven point lead early on. But Cincinnati clawed their way back in it quickly, and the rest of the half was a closely fought contest that saw eight lead changes. Hollis Thompson hit a last second three-pointer to give the Hoyas a 34-32 edge heading into halftime.

West Virginia Recap

The Georgetown Hoyas dropped their first conference game of the season with a road defeat at the hands of the West Virginia Mountaineers. The 74-62 loss ended Georgetown’s 11-game winning streak, the longest since 2006-07. West Virginia was led by their two excellent seniors Kevin Jones (22 points, 16 rebounds) and Truck Bryant (game-high 25 points). Entering play this weekend, Jones was leading the Big East conference in both scoring and rebounding. Hollis Thompson led the Hoyas in scoring with 20 points on 7-13 from the field.

Marquette Recap

The Georgetown Hoyas won their 11th straight game, this time in dramatic fashion, as they came back from a 17-point 2nd half deficit to beat the Marquette Golden Eagles 73-70. The Hoyas were led by senior Jason Clark who played the entire second half and led all scorers with 26 points.

Providence Recap

With the New Year’s celebrations just hours away, perhaps the thoughts of forthcoming festivities distracted the players. Yet the Georgetown Hoyas survived a very difficult shooting performance to outlast the Providence Friars 49-40 and extend their winning streak to ten games. On an afternoon where every point was critical, Georgetown’s Jason Clark led all scorers with 16 points, including a fast break 3-point play in the final seconds to seal the victory for the Hoyas. Henry Sims had a solid all around performance in spite of shooting 2-13 from the field, contributing 11 points, 7 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 3 assists. Providence was led by their talented freshman LaDontae Henton who scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
