St. John’s Recap

By Hoya Hoops

The Georgetown Hoyas earned a historic victory in Madison Square Garden, crushing the St. John’s Red Storm 74-42. The 32-point margin of victory is the largest against St. John’s in the 29 year history of the Big East Conference.

Georgetown began the game with suffocating defense, allowing zero field goals for the first 15 and a half minutes of the game. By the time the Red Storm scored their first hoop, the Hoyas were already winning 31-7. Georgetown led 41-14 at the half.

Vernon Macklin scored a career-high 18 points, and Roy Hibbert added 11 points in just 18 minutes of action. In the final seconds, junior walk-on Bryon Jansen made a three-pointer to score his first points of the season. Georgetown played without DaJuan Summers, who missed the game with an injured ankle suffered in the last game at West Virginia. It was the first time in his career with Georgetown that Summers has missed a game.

Georgetown returns home after their two-game road trip to host the Seton Hall Pirates at Verizon Center. Game-time will be 12:00 PM.
