Georgetown @ West Virginia: 01/26/2008

| West Virginia | 24 | 33 | 57 |

Jessie Sapp made a three-pointer with 6.2 seconds left to give the Hoyas a one-point lead. Then Patrick Ewing Jr. blocked a layup as time expired to preserve the win and give the Hoyas their second straight victory at the buzzer. Da’Sean Butler drove baseline on the last possession, and as he got to the rim, Ewing swatted his shot away. Coach Bob Huggins and the West Virginia coaching staff were appalled that the block wasn’t ruled goaltending, but the referees thought it was a good block. Television replays were inconclusive.
Sapp finished with a team-high 15 points, and just like in the last win against Syracuse, he scored five points in a row down the stretch to help the Hoyas come from behind. Georgetown trailed by nine points midway through the second half and by five points with two and a half minutes to play. Roy Hibbert had a double double (12 points, 10 rebounds) including an offensive rebound tip-in during the final comeback.
Georgetown is now 6-1 in conference play and in sole possession of first place in the Big East. The Hoyas’ next game is on Wednesday as they travel to Madison Square Garden to take on St. John’s; game time is set for 7:00 pm.
