Mike’s Marquette Postgame Thoughts

By Mike

Teams

Georgetown:
Georgetown played a very good first half. They were making their shots, and it seemed as though the team’s confidence was high. However, in the second half, the Hoyas regressed to its form of the last few games. They fell behind and seemed to lose their nerve, no one wanted to take the big shot, and as a result, they couldn’t keep up the scoring pace with Marquette.

Marquette:
The Golden Eagles came out on fire, and answered every Georgetown basket with a basket of their own. They ended the game shooting 52% from the field, but perhaps even more impressive than their shooting was their defense, as they forced the Hoyas into 17 turnovers.

Players

Georgetown:
DaJuan Summers was questionable coming into this game, but looked 110% at the start, scoring the team’s first eight points. He ended with 22 points on 9-12 shooting, including a perfect 4-4 from beyond the arc. Unfortunately, it seemed he went a long span in the second half without taking a shot. The Hoyas have not done a good job all season of finding the hot hand.

Marquette:
Jerel McNeal did everything for the Golden Eagles: making threes, penetrating, passing, and forcing turnovers. His impressive line shows how active he was: 26 points, six rebounds, 11 assists, five steals and even three blocks.

Referees

The referees were absolutely atrocious. Maybe it didn’t decide the outcome, but it can be frustrating as a player when you feel like every call is going against you.

Number of the Game

50: Three point percentage for the Hoyas. While the Hoyas dropped their fifth straight game, there was one trend that changed. After some pretty abysmal shooting nights, Georgetown seemed to turn a corner in at least that aspect, making 10 out of 20 attempts.

1,000 Point club

DaJuan Summers became the 40th Hoya to join the 1,000 Point Club. His 22 points give him a career total of 1,007, moving him into 40th place all time behind Tom O’Keefe. Congratulations, DaJuan.
