Hey everybody, Johnny here at Madison Square Garden, one hour away from the Big East Tournament Championship game between the Georgetown Hoyas and West Virginia Mountaineers.
The Hoyas entered the tournament as the #8 seed and proceeded to beat the #9 South Florida Bulls, the #1 Syracuse Orange, and the #5 Marquette Golden Eagles.
West Virginia on the other hand came in ranked #3 in the conference, earning them two byes, and they went on to beat #11 Cincinnati and #7 Notre Dame.
The Hoyas have looked very good throughout the whole tournament, winning their games by an average of over 16 points, while the Mountaineers have come away with close victories, beating the Bearcats by a buzzer-beating banked three pointer to avoid overtime, and sneaking by Notre Dame by two with the Irish missing a three-pointer to win it.
This will be the second meeting between the teams in less than two weeks, but in the last game, the Hoyas were without leading scorer Austin Freeman. The stakes are higher, the players are ready, and this game should be a completely different story.
The crew here at MSG are having some trouble with their wireless internet in the arena, so I may not be able to post too much info when I get to my seat, but here in the media room, I’m good to go. I’ll be updating via my phone as much as possible, and if I get the internet working on my laptop, I’ll be adding content there too.
Either way, check back postgame for the audio and box score, which I will hopefully be able to get out quicker than most.

Hey everyone, Johnny here at Madison Square Garden, an hour before the Big East Tournament semifinal between Georgetown and Marquette tips off.
The Hoyas enter the game on a three-game winning streak extending back to Senior Day and running through the BET. The last time Georgetown had won three straight was back in December / January when the Hoyas beat Harvard, St. John’s, and DePaul.
In their only regular season meeting, the Hoyas fell to Marquette by three on the road. That was the game that ended the Hoyas’ last three-game winning streak, so let’s hope that history does not repeat itself.
I’ll be updating you all with scores, stats, and other info as the game goes on, but for now that’s all I’ve got. Hopefully, I can get the starting lineups in a few.some

Hey everyone. Johnny here at Verizon Center, less than an hour away from tipoff on Georgetown’s Senior Day. True, Georgetown doesn’t have any seniors on the roster this year, but for some cheerleaders, band members, and fans in the student section, this will be the last Hoya game at the Verizon Center in their undergraduate careers.
With a win, Georgetown will secure a first-round bye in the Big East Tournament, and they will have reached 20 wins on the season and 10 conference victories. With a loss, the Hoyas may have to play on Tuesday, depending on the outcomes of other Big East games going on today.
This is the first game since the Hoyas announced that Austin Freeman has been diagnosed with diabetes and was listed as day-to-day. Right now, the scoreboard lists Hollis Thompson as a starter, so we will have to see how much playing time Free gets today, if any.
Here are the lineups and referees:
The Hoyas are starting Hollis Thompson, Chris Wright, Jason Clark, Julian Vaughn, and Greg Monroe.
For the Bearcats, it will be Vaughn, Davis, Stephenson, Gates, and Toyloy.
The officials this afternoon will be Jim Haney, Michael Kitts, and Brian O’Connell.

Hey everyone, Johnny here at Verizon Center, less than an hour away from tipoff between the Georgetown Hoyas and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Irish are coming off a win against Pittsburgh, but they are still expected to be without 2008 Big East Player of the Year Luke Harangody, who is suffering from a deep bone bruise that he received in his right knee against Seton Hall. Harangody was warming up with his team, but he’s not listed as a starter, so he may play in this one, but right now it seems unlikely.
The Hoyas just headed back to the locker room after some warmups. On the way, a bunch of players headed into the student section to high five the fans. Georgetown will not be wearing their usual home gray today. They are sporting white warmups, and their uniforms will be silver in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Jordan brand. Here’s a photo of the unis: Silver Uniform.
I’ll be checking back with more info, but for now, the starters:
Hoyas starting the usual five: Wright, Clark, Freeman, Vaughn, and Monroe.
Update: Hoyas starting Wright, Clark, Vaughn, and Monroe.
Austin Freeman is on the bench with the trainer, as Hollis Thompson gets the start.
Irish will be starting Nash, Jackson, Abromaitis, Hansbrough, and Scott.
The refs today are Jim Burr, Gene Steratore, and Pat Driscoll.

Hey everyone, Johnny here at the Verizon Center. We’re a little over half an hour away from the huge rivalry game between Georgetown and Syracuse. The Hoyas fell to the Orange earlier in the season, but that was at the Carrier Dome. Tonight, the sides face off in Chinatown, where the Hoyas are 12 and 1.
So far, Georgetown has split with the two teams they’ve played twice this season, with the home team winning each matchup. Let’s see if that trend continues to day with a win for the Boys in Gray.
I’ll be checking back in throughout the game, but I already have this info for you:
The Hoyas will be starting the usual five – Wright, Clark, Freeman, Monroe, and Vaughn.
The Orange will start Jackson, Rautins, Johnson, Onuaku and Triche.
And tonight’s officials will be Jim burr, Jamie Luckey, and James Breeding – three Jameses.

Hey everyone, Johnny here from the RAC in New Jersey, getting ready for the Big East Battle between the Georgetown Hoyas and Rutgers Scarlet Knights. It’s Valentine’s Day, possibly the only day of the year when Scarlet Knights seems like an appropriate team mascot, so maybe the 2-9 guys from Jersey can upset the #7 Hoyas.
We’re still about half an hour away from tipoff, and the scoreboard here that shows the players’ foul and point totals currently lists the Hoyas’ starting lineup as Hollis Thompson, Chris Wright, Vee Sanford, Ryan Dougherty, and Jason Clark. A little wishful thinking from Rutgers, I think, since Austin Freeman, Julian Vaughn, and Greg Monroe are all here, dressed, and running layup lines.
When I get some real information for you, I’ll post it here.

Hey everybody. Johnny here at Verizon Center again. It comes as no surprise, but with half an hour to go until the opening tipoff, there are a lot less fans and significantly less security as there was on Saturday.
But even though the President isn’t here, this South Florida team should not be overlooked. USF is coming off of three straight conference victories, most recently beating then #17 Pitt.
I’ll be checking in with updates throughout, but for now, here’s what I know:
- The refs tonight are going to be John Cahill, Wally Rutecki, and Clarence Armstrong.
- The Hoyas will be starting the usual five – Wright, Clark, Freeman, Vaughn, and Monroe.
- The USF Bulls are set to start Howard, Jones, Famous, Fitzpatrick, and Mercer.

There’s crazy traffic out there due to the sticking snow, DC Auto Show, and Duke vs Georgetown game. Add into that, they are sweeping every car that comes into the Verizon Center Parking lot, and it makes for a long ride to the Phone Booth.
They’re checking every bag, making you turn on all electronic equipment, and screening everyone through metal detectors.
If President Obama does not show up for this Big East-ACC matchup, then all this security might be a bit overkill.
Regardless, Hoya fans don’t care if the President shows up; they just care that the Boys in Gray come up with a victory. The entire lower bowl and most of the middle tier here all have Gray Out t-shirts on the seats, only the 400s show the Verizon Center purple.
Anyway, this is a big game, on national network television, and I’ll be giving in-game updates for the next few hours. For now, here’s what I know:
Referees will be Bryan Kersey, Ed Corbett, and Michael Stephens.
Starting lineups look like:
Wright, Clark, Freeman, Vaughn, and Monroe for the Hoyas
Smith, Singler, Plumlee, Scheyer, and Thomas for the Blue Devils.

Johnny here courtside at the Phone Booth 45 minutes away from tipoff between the Georgetown Hoyas and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
The Hoyas are coming off of a two-game road trip in which the Hoyas split against higher ranked opponents, most recently defeating Pittsburgh at the Petersen Events Center.
Rutgers, meanwhile have struggled in the Big East season, losing six straight games and still winless in the conference. To many, this has trap game for the Hoyas written all over it.
I’l be checking back in with more info as we go, but for now –
Refs are Tim Clougherty, Ed Corbett, and Bernard Clinton.

Hey everyone, Johnny here at the Wachovia Center in South Philadelphia. We’re about half an hour away from tipoff between the Villanova Wildcats and the Georgetown Hoyas. The last time the Hoyas came to Philly, they came away with a thrilling victory against the 10th ranked team in the country.
This year, things are a little different as Villanova is ranked #4, but the Hoyas are right on their tail at #11. It’s a big game for both teams in the middle of a packed Big East schedule.
I’m gonna be giving updates from press row throughout, but for now, here’s what I know:
The Wildcats are going to be starting Pena, Reynolds, Fisher, Redding, and Stokes.
The Hoyas are going to put the same five out there – Wright, Clark, Freeman, Vaughn, and Monroe.
