Georgetown:
Georgetown has been a streaky team this year, following stellar performances with uninspired losses and vice versa. This game was a tour-de-force for the Hoyas, as they pounded the Bearcats by 27. We have known for a while what this Georgetown team is capable of achieving when they play well, and they demonstrated that Saturday. The hard part will be actually playing at that level consistently. But, going into the Big East Tournament, this was a huge confidence boost.

Georgetown:
The Hoyas have struggled to put together a 40 minute performance this season. Since the victory over Duke, the Hoyas have had only one satisfying performance start-to-finish in a big win over then-#2 Villanova. But even in Georgetown’s wins over Louisville and Providence, there were stretches when the team looked lethargic.
I will give Georgetown credit for this: they do not quit. Even in games when they are down big, they try to rally for a comeback. But, I would like to see that type of focus and intensity for the whole game, instead of only after falling into a huge hole.

Georgetown:
Georgetown is a good basketball team. They just have a tendency to try and hide that fact. There are a lot of reasons why the Hoyas lost this one – Austin Freeman was sick and nowhere near 100%, Notre Dame has a lot of motivation without Luke Harangody and they are better than they get credit for – but those are just excuses. The Hoyas needed a win, and they came short.

Georgetown:
Georgetown needed a win, and despite a small scare thanks to their slow start, they got what they came for. It was a crucial win for the Hoyas, coming off of two losses and facing a conference team ahead of them in the Big East standings.
As the season progresses, it is becoming more and more clear that Austin Freeman and Greg Monroe are the most consistent players on this Georgetown team. And it’s good to see that in a game when Chris Wright can’t get himself into an offensive rhythm that the other players on the team step up, and the Hoyas can still come out with a win against a quality opponent.

Georgetown:
The Hoyas have been a hot-and-cold type of team all season long, and you saw both sides in this game. The first 25 minutes of the game were difficult to watch, as Georgetown looked flummoxed by the Syracuse zone, as if the Orange have not been playing the same defense for 30 years, and they were totally incapable of stopping Syracuse, giving up wide open three-point looks or dunks.

Georgetown:
Georgetown started the game looking very lethargic. In a game where the outside shots weren’t falling, the Hoyas adjusted well to go inside either by giving the ball to Greg Monroe or by getting to the basket. However, when the game was winding down, they went away from that and they could not get much needed stops on the defensive end, and that ultimately caused the loss.

Georgetown:
The Hoyas showed they were able to grind out an ugly win in this game. After starting the first half 8-11 from the field, Georgetown would make just five of their next 19 shots and found themselves down two at the break. Not coincidentally, the offensive woes started right after Greg Monroe picked up his second foul and was forced to spend time on the bench.

Georgetown:
For the second Saturday in a row, the Hoyas used a first half offensive explosion to easily handle their opponents. The team shot 56% from the field on the day, thanks in part to getting good open three point looks early, as they were 61% from beyond the arc at half time. When the three’s start to fall, it makes it hard for teams to guard Georgetown, since extending the defense opens up the inside for Greg Monroe.
And despite a few too many turnovers with Chris Wright in foul trouble, Georgetown was able to hold a relatively comfortable lead for the whole game. Free throw shooting helped maintain the lead, and the Hoyas were much improved from line, rebounding from their 50% performance on Wednesday to shoot 78% from the stripe. All in all, it was a good performance for the Hoyas.

Georgetown:
The Hoyas started the game strong, and it looked as though Georgetown would coast to an easy victory. But the Hoyas didn’t come out of the locker room after halftime ready to play at all, and they sleepwalked through the second half. The offense looked disjointed, with too many turnovers and poor shot selection. On defense, Georgetown played fairly well, but they allowed too much penetration, and they did not get stops when the team needed them.

Georgetown:
The Hoyas dominated this game from start to finish. They ran their offense to perfection, abusing the Duke defenders throughout the game for easy looks. On the other end of the floor, the Hoyas played pressure defense, holding Duke to 37% from the field.
Also, the Hoyas have had a tendency to take the foot off the pedal on occasion when opening a big lead, but they stayed focused the whole game, only letting up slightly in the final minute of the game with a 19 point lead.
