We at Hoya Hoops didn’t feel up to watching the tournament games yesterday, so we played Scrabble instead. That made us think of this question:
What is an appropriate board game to play with this group of Hoya seniors?
We think we would like to play Jenga, since you need a steady hand and the ability to stay cool under pressure. What game would you play? Let us know in the comments.

All-star games are a lot of fun to watch. You get to see lots of dunks, flashy plays, and end-to-end action. Anyone who watched the McDonald’s All-American game last night could clearly see the athleticism of all the participants. What was harder to decipher was the type of player Greg Monroe might be.

CBS hails itself as “America’s Most Watched Network,” and part of that is no doubt due to the huge ratings they get from the second week in March until the first weekend in April. CBS has had the rights to the NCAA Tournament for as long as I can remember. And, for as long as I can remember, the coverage of the tournament has been atrocious. This year is no exception.

Sunday morning, as I was packing my bags and preparing to check out of my hotel room just outside of Raleigh, North Carolina, I was planning out my upcoming week with my fiancee, Emily. “If we win today, then the next round is on Friday and Sunday in Detroit,” I was saying. “I’d have to miss work on Friday and then we’d have to see about flights for Sunday night or Monday.” Since Emily is a teacher at a Catholic elementary school, she had the week off for Easter and said, “Well if it works out, I’ll be able to come since I don’t have school until the following Tuesday.” I would still have to worry about making up the hours at work and about finding a hotel, a flight, and some means of transport to get to the games. But that was all still very far away.

So, Duke lost in round 2 of the NCAA Tournament. Honestly, they were lucky to get that far. Duke was the second best team in the ACC during the regular season, and they lost in the semifinals of the ACC Tournament. They were knocked out of the NCAA Tournament by the 5th best team in the Big East. But my point is not to praise the Big East. My point is not to compare the Big East to the ACC, even though West Virginia beat Duke, Villanova (#12 seed, 8th during Big East regular season) beat Clemson (#5 seed, 3rd during ACC season), and Syracuse (#9 in the Big East) beat Maryland (#6 in the ACC) in the NIT. My point is to criticize the American College Basketball Media for not seeing the reality of the situation.

I’m sorry this is so late, but I have been pretty upset and tired from my road trip to Raleigh. I’ll fill you in on some of the details of that trip later on, but in the meantime, here are my postgame thoughts.
Teams
Georgetown:
Georgetown played as good of a game as they’ve put together this season, and unfortunately, they ended up on the losing end. There were probably too many unforced turnovers, too many offensive fouls, and too little rebounding at the beginning of the second half, but other than that, there was not too much to complain about on the Hoyas’ end.

The Hoyas did not lose to Davidson because of the officiating. The frustrating blown lead was not the referees’ fault. But it was the refs’ fault that Roy Hibbert was not allowed to participate. Hibbert was abused by the refs; there is no other way to put it. Roy’s teammates should have managed without him, as they had done a number of times during the season, but a fairly officiated game would have sent the Hoyas to their third straight Sweet Sixteen. It’s not an excuse. It’s a fact.
