- After averaging 10.5 points and 4.7 rebounds a game, Jeff Green was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team. Jeff is the first Hoya to make the team since Allen Iverson in 1996-97.
- This past weekend, former Georgetown Captain Tom Scates passed away from a heart attack. Graduating in 1979, Scates was one of Coach John Thompson Jr.’s first big men, and he graduated as the best shot blocker in team history. Here are the Georgetown press release and an article from the View From the Hilltop blog.

With the season over for the Hoyas, three Georgetown seniors are still making headlines:
- Roy Hibbert was named a Second Team Associated Press All-American this week. Roy was also named to the First Team All-Big East squad this past season, First Team All-Big East in 2007, and Second Team All-Big East in 2006.
- Patrick Ewing, Jr. will participate in the 20th Annual State Farm College Slam Dunk Championship this Thursday in San Antonio. He will be competing against James Gist of Maryland, Will Bullard of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, J.R. Giddens of New Mexico, Brian Randle of Illinois, Deron Washington of Virginia Tech, Sonny Weems of Arkansas, and Joey Dorsey of Memphis. The event will be televised nationally on ESPN and ESPN HD beginning at 9:00PM.
- Patrick Ewing, Jr. will also join Jonathan Wallace as they participate in the 56th Annual Portsmouth Invitational Tournament next week. The P.I.T. is the last opportunity for seniors to be evaluated by NBA coaches and scouts before the NBA pre-draft camp in Orlando. Johnny will be heading to Portsmouth, VA to cover a few of the games and hopefully get a chance to talk to some of the players and coaches.

Yesterday evening, the Big East announced the 2007-08 individual Postseason Award Winners.
As predicted, Luke Harangody of Notre Dame won Player of the Year, averaging a double-double and leading the league in points. He is the first player to average 20+ points a game and 10+ rebounds a game since Georgetown’s Mike Sweetney and Syracuse’s Carmelo Anthony did it in 2003. Troy Bell won Player of the Year in 2003, but looking at their numbers it’s hard to see how the award didn’t go to Big Mike or Carmelo. Head to head, this is how the two rivals went at it.
But the real news yesterday for Hoyas fans came as a surprise. A new Big East award was presented last night, and it went to Georgetown’s own Patrick Ewing, Jr. The award? 6th Man of the Year. Tony had talked about the lack of such an award in the NCAA and that if it existed, Pat would be a shoo-in. Well, the Big East obliged, and Pat has some hardware to add to his personal trophy kit.
