- On Saturday, it was announced that former Georgetown star Jeff Green would undergo surgery and miss the entire 2011-12 NBA season. After a routine physical before starting the season with the Celtics, doctors found an aortic aneurysm and recognized the need for the season-ending surgery. Despite the life-threatening disease, he is expected to return from the surgery and be able to play again.
- The Georgetown Hoyas moved to 9-1 on the season with an 81-55 win over the American Eagles Saturday afternoon. Strong performances from Henry Sims and Markel Starks led the Hoyas to victory over the cross-town rivals.
- #8 Xavier was the lone team in the Top Ten to lose this week, falling to Oral Roberts 64-42 on Sunday.

- The Hoyas lost their last home game of the season on Saturday, falling to Syracuse 51-58 on Senior Day. Chris Wright did not play due to his injured hand, and his starting spot was taken by Hollis Thompson.
- Jeff Green played in his first game as a Celtic on Saturday, after being traded along with Nenad Krstic just before the trade deadline on Thursday. Jeff wore #8 in Boston’s win over the Clippers, scoring 7 points in his 17 minutes of action. Speaking of his new players, Celtics coach Doc Rivers said, “They both had some bright moments for us and you can see they’ll be really good. I’m going to have to figure out how to use Jeff. I have no idea yet.”
- The #1 ranked team in the nation fell again this week, as Duke lost on the road to Virginia Tech, 60-64.
- Besides Duke, four other Top 10 teams lost this week, with #4 Pittsburgh losing to Louisville on Sunday, #5 Texas falling to unranked Colorado, #6 San Diego State losing to #7 BYU, and #10 Arizona dropping two to USC and UCLA

Today marked the trade deadline for the NBA, and the Oklahoma City Thunder traded Jeff Green to Boston.
After getting drafted by the Celtics as the #5 overall pick in 2007, Green was quickly traded to Seattle/Oklahoma City on draft day. Today, he returns to Boston, getting traded with Nenad Krstic for Kendrick Perkins and Nate Robinson.

- The Hoyas picked up two wins over the week, beating St. John’s at home on Wednesday, and then beating #8 Villanova in Philadelphia on Saturday.
- There were tons of losses in the Top 25 over the past week, and four of the top 5 teams in the country picked up a loss as #2 Pittsburgh lost to Notre Dame on Big Monday, #3 Duke lost to St. John’s yesterday in New York, #4 San Diego State lost their first game to Brigham Young on Wednesday, and #5 Connecticut fell to Louisville in double overtime on Saturday.
- Also, #8 Villanova and #9 Syracuse each lost twice over the week, and #9 Brigham Young, #11 Missouri, #12 Purdue, #13 Texas A&M, #16 Minnesota, #17 Wisconsin, #18 Washington, #19 Vanderbilt, #20 Illinois, #22 Florida State, #24 Florida, and #25 Michigan State all lost a game this week as well.
- #1 Ohio State is the only unbeaten team left in the country, and they narrowly escaped experiencing their first loss with a 58-57 win over Northwestern on Saturday.
- In the NBA, Jeff Green continues to do well with the Thunder, as he scored 19 points and hit the game-tying shot in the overtime win against Minnesota, had 13 and 10 against the Wizards, and then scored 23 in the loss to the Heat yesterday afternoon.
- Roy Hibbert scored 20 points for the first time since November, but followed up that performance against the Nets with a 2 point showing against Chicago . Expect big changes for the Pacers, though, as coach Jim O’Brien was fired and replaced with interim coach Frank Vogel.
- Greg Monroe is continuing to do well with the Pistons as he scored 15 points and grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds in a loss against the Knicks yesterday. DaJuan Summers played 12 minutes in that and scored four points.
- In the NBA Development League, Patrick Ewing, Jr. was traded from the Reno Big Horns to the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Tuesday. In his first games with the Skyforce, he scored 13 and grabbed 15 boards and then followed that up with a team leading 14 points in two losses to the Dakota Wizards.

- The Hoyas won their final out-of-conference game this past week, soundly beating #16 Memphis 86-69. The win puts the Hoyas at 11-1 heading into Big East play this Wednesday at Notre Dame.
- There were no upsets of any of the teams in the Top 10 teams in the rankings, with Georgetown and Missouri the only top ten teams to play a ranked opponent. Missouri beat #21 Illinois 75-64.
- The Hoyas in the NBA went 1-2 over the Christmas weekend, with Jeff Green the only Hoya victorious. The Oklahoma City Thunder defeated Denver on Christmas 114-106, with Jeff getting 12 points and six assists. Both the Indiana Pacers and the Detroit Pistons lost their games on Boxing Day, falling to Memphis and Chicago, respectively.
- In Turkey, Allen Iverson returned to the court after missing two weeks to lead Bestikas to a 24 point win over Pinar Karsiyaka, 89-65. Iverson had 20 points on 5-11 shooting in the game.

- Georgetown went 2-0 in the week, beating #9 Missouri in overtime in Kansas City on Tuesday, and then beating Utah State at home on Saturday. The Hoyas have started the season 8-0 for the second straight year, and for the third time in four seasons.
- Three teams in the Top 10 dropped games over the past week. #6 Michigan State lost to #1 Duke, the Hoyas upset #9 Missouri, and #10 Kentucky fell to North Carolina on Saturday.
- In the NBA, two former Hoyas scored their career highs, both coming in games on Wednesday. Jeff Green scored 37 points in Oklahoma City’s triple overtime win over the Nets. Meanwhile, Greg Monroe put up a career-high 15 points to go with his eight boards in a losing effort against the Heat.

- The Hoyas moved to 6-0 with a home win over UNC Asheville on Saturday in which Austin Freeman tied the school record for threes in a game with seven.

Alonzo Mourning was named one of seven Hoyas who will be entered into the Georgetown Athletic Hall of Fame in February. The event, taking place in Leavey Center on Friday, February 25, will also include Michael Stahr, Kathryn Federici, Dean Lowry, James Kenny, Mark Marilley, and Andrew Hoffmann from various sports on the Hilltop.
- Five teams in the AP Top 10 lost their first game this week. Unranked Connecticut beat #2 Michigan State and #8 Kentucky. #4 Kansas State lost to top-ranked Duke, #7 Villanova fell to #24 Tennessee, and #10 Purdue were upset by unranked Richmond.
- In the NBA, Jeff Green and the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated Roy Hibbert and the Indiana Pacers in overtime on Friday. Big Roy put up 19 points and 10 rebounds in the loss, while Jeff scored 15 and grabbed 14 boards in the hard-fought victory. Hibbert was tough to contain until Green switched to cover his old teammate in the 4th quarter and overtime.
- In Turkey, Allen Iverson earned his first victory in Europe with a 94-85 win over Trabzonspor. Allen scored 14 points, dished out 8 assists, and collected a steal in the W.
- And in the D-League, Patrick Ewing, Jr. helped the Reno Bighorns move to 4-0 with two victories over the Bakersfield Jam over the weekend. He collected 20 points and 9 rebounds in the first game, and managed 17 and 11 in the second.

Here’s a look at what went down this past weekend:
- The Georgetown Hoyas won the third annuals Charleston Classic this weekend, defeating Coastal Carolina on Thursday, Wofford on Friday, and NC State last night. Chris Wright was named the tournament MVP and Jason Clark was also named to the All-Tournament team. The Hoyas are now 5-0 on the season and have a short Thanksgiving break, not playing again until Saturday when they take on UNC-Asheville at home.
- In the NBA, Jeff Green is still out with his ankle injury. He has missed seven out of the last eight games for the Thunder and is listed as day-to-day for tonight’s game against the Timberwolves.
- Over in Europe, Allen Iverson played his first game in the Turkish league, losing 74-67 to Fenerbahçe Ülker. AI only managed two points and is now 0-2 in play in Turkey. Earlier in the week, he played in the Eurocup, as Beşiktaş lost to KK Hemofarm Stada.
- The NBA D-League got underway this weekend, and Patrick Ewing, Jr. is indeed playing with the Reno Bighorns. They won their first two games -both against the Utah Flash – and Patrick led the team last night with 28 points to go with his 11 boards and 6 assists.
- The #10 Florida Gators were the first team ranked in the Top 10 to lose a game, falling to #5 Ohio State on Tuesday. The first Top 10 upsets, though, took place in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off where #8 North Carolina dropped two games, falling to Minnesota on Friday, and then losing to Vanderbilt in the 3rd place game. The Tar Heels’ next opponent – like the Hoyas – is UNC-Asheville.

- The Georgetown Hoyas opened their season with a road win against the CAA’s Old Dominion 62-59. They start their home season tonight with a game against Tulane at 7:00pm.
- After missing three games with a sprained ankle, Jeff Green returned to the starting lineup with the Oklahoma City Thunder yesterday. He left the game late in the third quarter ice his ankle and had this to say:
It just got a little sore. It’s not something I want to try to push through,” said Green, Oklahoma City’s third-leading scorer. “It’s still early in the season. If it was the playoffs, yes. I don’t want to drive it to the point where I reaggravate it too much and then I’m out longer than I was before. I didn’t want to push it too much.
- Allen Iverson postponed his debut in Turkey saying he “did not feel ready.” So instead of playing his first game in a #4 jersey on Friday, he will most likely have his debut tomorrow.
- After being waived from the New York Knicks’ roster, Patrick Ewing Jr. headed to Nevada to attend training camp with the NBDL’s Reno Bighorns. There’s been no official word if he will be playing with them once their season starts this Saturday, but for what it’s worth, his picture in a Reno uniform has made it to the Bighorns homepage.
- Memphis coach John Pastner announced on Saturday that freshman Jelan Kendrick is off the team. The McDonald’s All-American had missed 2 weeks of practice for personal reasons back before the season started, and there was no explanation for the move. The Hoyas face off against the Tigers in Memphis on Dec. 23.
