Fordham In-Game Thread

By Johnny

Hey everybody, Johnny here at the Verizon Center. We’re still about 11 hours from 2008, but we’re only one hour away from the last Hoyas game of the year. The teams are warming up right now, and one thing of note: Nikita Mescheriakov is dressed and ready to play after his ten game suspension. He’s warming up with the rest of the guys, and be sure to look out for him if the Hoyas start to get a comfortable lead.

I’ll check back in with the starting lineups in a few.

Big East Woes

By Hoya Hoops
  • The Dayton Flyers crushed the Pittsburgh Panthers 80-55 on Saturday. The win makes Dayton 2-0 against Top 25 Big East opponents, having also beaten then-14th Louisville.
  • Pittsburgh received more bad news over the weekend, starting junior guard Levance Fields broke his foot in the Panthers’ loss to Dayton, and he is out for as many as 12 weeks. The news comes barely a week after losing forward Mike Cook for the season due to an ACL tear.
  • West Virginia lost a heartbreaker to Oklahoma, falling 88-82 in double overtime. The Mountaineer’s Alex Ruoff made a last-second put-back to force overtime, and they led by five points with 1:30 left in the first overtime, but couldn’t close it out. West Virginia drops it second of the year, its first at home.

Jeff Soars in Second Start

By Hoya Hoops
  • The Georgetown Hoyas remained perfect at home, defeating American University 78-51. DaJuan Summers led the Hoyas with 16 points, and Chris Wright added 13 points on 4-4 shooting. Georgetown wraps up 2007 with a home game against the Fordham Rams, in its last tune-up before Big East play. Tip-off is at 2:00 PM.
  • Jeff Green led all scorers with 18 points in the Supersonics’ 109-91 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. It was only Jeff’s second start of the season, and he picked up the slack for the missing Kevin Durant, who left the game early with an injured left finger.

Mike’s American Postgame Thoughts

By Mike

Teams

Georgetown:
The Hoyas started off slowly but got into a rhythm as the first half wore on, and they closed the half on a 25-9 run to give Georgetown some breathing room going into the break. From there, the Hoyas coasted to a 27 point victory.

American In-Game Thread

By Johnny

Johnny here at the Verizon Center, and we’re about an hour from tip-off. This game looks like it’ll be a good test for the Hoyas, as this American team is no joke, having beaten Maryland earlier this year. The Hoyas are coming off a tough loss at Memphis and will want to get back on a winning streak before the Big East season begins. We’ll have to see how many students come out since they are still on Christmas vacation, and they aren’t allowed back on campus for over a week.

Horace Broadnax Interview, Part I

By Hoya Hoops

If Hoya fans around D.C. are looking for some ways to ring in the New Year with more college basketball, Hoya Hoops has an excellent option. Get tickets to see the University of Maryland host Savannah State on Wednesday, January 2. Why? Because former Hoya Horace Broadnax is the Head Coach of the Tigers. Broadnax was a very good shooter for Georgetown and a member of the 1984 National Championship team. He’s in a totally different environment as a coach; Savannah State is an independent college with no conference affiliation and therefore no automatic bid into the NCAA tournament. We had a chance to speak with Horace about life at Savannah State and of course the old days on the hilltop.
