Georgetown:
The Hoyas started off slowly but got into a rhythm as the first half wore on, and they closed the half on a 25-9 run to give Georgetown some breathing room going into the break. From there, the Hoyas coasted to a 27 point victory.

American In-Game Thread

By Johnny

Johnny here at the Verizon Center, and we’re about an hour from tip-off. This game looks like it’ll be a good test for the Hoyas, as this American team is no joke, having beaten Maryland earlier this year. The Hoyas are coming off a tough loss at Memphis and will want to get back on a winning streak before the Big East season begins. We’ll have to see how many students come out since they are still on Christmas vacation, and they aren’t allowed back on campus for over a week.

Big Weekend

By Hoya Hoops

Before the Memphis game, we asked what the total points would be between the two teams. We guessed 153 and the Hoyas and Tigers combined for 156. Unfortunately, Georgetown didn’t have more than half of those points though. So we won that contest, but the Hoyas lost the game. Let’s see if you guys can beat us in the predictions, and the Hoyas can beat their foes this weekend.

Since Georgetown is taking on two teams this weekend (yes, we’re counting Monday as a part of the weekend), we’ve decided to combine the predictions this time, and just ask one question:

Which player will score the most points against American and Fordham and what will his point total be?

Now we mean combined points here, so we only want one player. We’re gonna go with Roy with 43 because after the Memphis game, he made some comments about being more aggressive from now on.

What do you think?

Local Rivals

By Tony

People all over the Metro area - and all over the nation to some extent - have made a big deal about Georgetown not playing Maryland in basketball. We all know the truth about the MD-GU series. After playing at the Capital Centre in the 1993-94 season, Maryland refused to the agreed upon terms and the return game was never played. Somehow Maryland still feels that Georgetown is to blame. Two coaches later and after many attempts to bury the hatchet by the Hoyas, the feud continues. Basically, the fact that Maryland and Georgetown haven’t played in this area in nearly fifteen years falls on the Terps, but the Hoyas are responsible for shutting down another local rivalry.

Hoyas Suffer First Loss

By Hoya Hoops
  • Georgetown lost its first game of the season, falling to the Memphis Tigers 85-71. Austin Freeman led the Hoyas in scoring for the third straight game.
  • The American University Eagles defeated the Maryland Terrapins, 67-59, handing Maryland its third straight home loss. This was American’s first victory over the Terps in 15 tries. American will next square off against another local rival, the Georgetown Hoyas. That game is this coming Saturday at 1:00 PM at the Verizon Center.
