Mike’s St. John’s Postgame Thoughts

By Mike

Teams

Georgetown:
The Hoyas utterly dominated the game in all aspects. The smothering defense kept St. John’s without a field goal for most of the first half, while the overpowering offense started the game on a 27-3 run. Even without perma-starter DaJuan Summers in the lineup, the Hoyas cruised to their easiest victory of the year.

Protecting the Hoop

By Hoya Hoops

For last night’s game, we asked you to predict how well Patrick Ewing Jr. would do in his return to Madison Square Garden. Ewing ended the night with nine points and three rebounds. Hoya Gray was the closest, so congratulations!

This Saturday, the Hoyas face a hot Seton Hall side which has won five conference games in a row. The Hoyas have a four-game winning streak of their own at stake. This game will come down to protecting the hoop, as the stalwart Hoyas’ defense will try to slow down the high-scoring Pirates.

How many points will the Hoyas allow against Seton Hall?

Our guess is 62 points. How about you?

Bad Calls

By Hoya Hoops

Let’s admit it, the Hoyas got a little lucky against West Virginia. Patrick Ewing, Jr. made a phenomenal play to block the shot at the buzzer, but it was very close to being a goal tend, and at home the call could have very easily favored the Mountaineers. Fortune follows the bold, and Ewing’s play was most definitely BOLD. So, the Hoyas got a fortuitous break. It’s about time! Think back on all of the bad bounces, wrong calls, and tough breaks that have gone against Georgetown in the past seasons. It’s not pleasant, but since the refs might have let the Hoyas get away with one, let’s re-visit some of the worst calls that ever went against the Hoyas (last 10 seasons only). I think you’ll see that even after the West Virginia game things aren’t exactly evening out. Kind of odd how so many games include Notre Dame or Jim Burr, or both, huh?

The Big Picture

By Mike

People like to generalize (myself included). We enjoy looking at specifics events and trying to find trends. We use small pieces to form the big picture. So, it is not surprising that after the controversial block Patrick Ewing Jr. made against Da’Sean Butler in the final seconds of the West Virginia game, people claimed that the “missed” call meant the Mountaineers were cheated out of a victory. However, there is an obvious flaw to this logic. And it is a matter of sample size.

Johnny’s West Virginia Postgame Thoughts

By Johnny

Teams

Georgetown:
This wasn’t the best performance by the Hoyas, but any win on the road in this conference is impressive, and winning at Morgantown against a highly capable Mountaineers team is definitely something to be proud of. The win made sure that Georgetown remained at the top of the conference, and the Hoyas’ biggest concern moving forward is how serious that injury to DaJuan Summers’ ankle really is.

Stepping Up

By Hoya Hoops

DaJuan Summers has been a starter all season for the Hoyas, but that might change on Wednesday, as Summers injured his ankle in the West Virginia game, and the severity of the injury is unknown. If he is not 100%, Patrick Ewing Jr. will have to step up. He showed in the last game that he has the ability to make big plays, and his return to Madison Square Garden will provide him with excellent motivation to step up his game:

How many points and rebounds will Patrick Ewing Jr. get in the St. John’s game?

We think Pat will have 12 points and 7 rebounds. Post your guesses in the comments.
