Mike’s West Virginia Postgame Thoughts

By Mike

Teams

Georgetown:
The Hoyas continue to show their ability to win in different ways. Against Villanova, the team got no offensive production from Roy Hibbert, but used a three-point barrage to coast to victory. In this game, Georgetown used a revitalized Hibbert to pound West Virginia inside. They also continued their stellar defense, holding the Mountaineer’s hot hand Joe Alexander to just 12 points on 5-16 shooting.

West Virginia In-Game Thread

By Johnny

Johnny, checking in from MSG. Here we are an hour away from tipoff of the Big East Tournament Semifinal game between the #5-seeded West Virginia Mountaineers and the #1-seeded Georgetown Hoyas.

Things are pretty quiet here as the fans are just about to be let in, but there were plenty of Georgetown fans that I saw lining up outside the gates. It’ll be a tough battle as usual tonight, as this Mountaineer team just dismantled the UCONN Huskies yesterday afternoon. Joe Alexander and company will have their hands full today though as Georgetown did some dismantling of their own, setting the stage for an exciting semifinal game.

I’ll be checking with lineups, info, and commentary as usual. You can chime in yourselves below.

Blocked Shots

By Hoya Hoops

In our last Pregame Predictions, we asked how many fouls the refs would call. There were 40 fouls called yesterday, 24 of those going against the Hoyas in a mostly one-sided officiating job. That means that Emily was exactly right on both counts. Good job, Emily!

Today, the Hoyas take on the Mountaineers. In the last meeting, Georgetown edged the Mountaineers on a last-second block by Patrick Ewing Jr. We will ask this question:

How many blocks will the Hoyas have, and who will have the most?

Our guess is six, with Roy Hibbert leading the way. Leave us your guesses in the comments.

The Big Picture

By Mike

People like to generalize (myself included). We enjoy looking at specifics events and trying to find trends. We use small pieces to form the big picture. So, it is not surprising that after the controversial block Patrick Ewing Jr. made against Da’Sean Butler in the final seconds of the West Virginia game, people claimed that the “missed” call meant the Mountaineers were cheated out of a victory. However, there is an obvious flaw to this logic. And it is a matter of sample size.

Johnny’s West Virginia Postgame Thoughts

Teams

Georgetown:
This wasn’t the best performance by the Hoyas, but any win on the road in this conference is impressive, and winning at Morgantown against a highly capable Mountaineers team is definitely something to be proud of. The win made sure that Georgetown remained at the top of the conference, and the Hoyas’ biggest concern moving forward is how serious that injury to DaJuan Summers’ ankle really is.
