Today the Hoyas host St. John’s. Georgetown coasted to an historically easy victory in the teams’ first meeting, but St. John’s has had success in the Verizon Center, winning the first four times they played on F Street. The hero for the Hoyas the first time Georgetown beat St. John’s at Verizon was Courtland Freeman. We talked with Courtland after the Cincinnati game, and you can find the first half of that interview here. And this is the rest of what the former #2 had to say.

Does everybody remember the story of The Emperor’s New Clothes? These con artists pass themselves off as designers and make new robes for the emperor. The bad guys pretend to use special fabric that only the smartest people can see. The Emperor quickly admits that he can see it, and the entire town does the same. Finally, during a procession through the town (or empire I guess), the Emperor walks around in his underwear until finally a little child sees him and says, “But he has nothing on!” The masses realize the kid is right and everybody laughs at the ridiculous Emperor. Meanwhile the Emperor continues his procession.
So class, what does this lesson teach us? There are several morals of the story, but they all basically say, “Think for yourself. Just because a lot of people are saying something doesn’t mean it’s the truth.” This concept applies very well to this season in college basketball, especially after a very interesting past few weeks.

Last time, we ask you tell us how many points the Georgetown bench would score. Hoya Gray guessed 16, which was exactly right. Nicely done.
This Wednesday, the Hoyas take on St. John’s at Verizon Center at 9:00 PM. Last time these two teams met, the Red Storm managed only two field goals in the entire first half. We thought this question would be fun:
How many baskets will St. John’s score in the first half?
As nice as two would be, we are going to say seven field goals, which will still require a solid defensive effort. What do you think? Post a comment with your guess.

Georgetown has a long history of keeping its former players very close to the current team. It’s a tradition we like to call “The Hoya Family”. We caught up with one member of the Hoya Family at the Verizon Center after the Cincinnati game this weekend: Courtland Freeman. Courtland was a power forward from the early part of this decade who was a solid rebounder and defender. At 6′9″, he had very good athleticism and had a number of memorable follow dunks. We spoke with Courtland about the current squad and last season’s accomplishments.

Georgetown:
This game was just what the doctor ordered for Georgetown. After four closely contested games, the Hoyas had a relatively easy time with the Bearcats. It looked as though it might be another nail-biter, as Cincinnati cut the Georgetown’s lead to five a minute into the second half, but then the Hoyas pulled away thanks to a 16-4 run and coasted to a 20 point victory. With every game of maximal importance in the race for the Big East title, the Hoyas surely enjoyed the stress-free victory.

Hey everybody, Johnny here at the Verizon Center. We’re a little less than half an hour away from the opening tip in this critical Big East match for the Hoyas as they take on the Bearcats of Cincinnati.
After splitting two games this weekend, the Hoyas are tied in the loss column of the Big East standings with Louisville, Connecticut, and Notre Dame. Every game is important as we come down the stretch of the conference season, so we’ll have to see what the Boys in Gray have to offer us this afternoon.
I’ll be back with the starting lineups and officials in a few. In the meantime, keep your thoughts coming in the comments.
